Methods to improve thermal efficiency of steam generators

A gas steam generator is a mechanical device that uses natural gas as fuel or thermal energy from other energy sources to heat water into hot water or steam. But sometimes during use, you may feel that its thermal efficiency has decreased and is not as high as when it was first used. So in this case, how can we improve its thermal efficiency? Let’s follow the editor of Nobeth to find out more!

First of all, everyone must know what it means to improve the thermal efficiency of a gas steam generator. Thermal efficiency is the ratio of the effective output energy to the input energy of a specific thermal energy conversion device. It is a dimensionless index, generally expressed as a percentage. In order to improve the thermal efficiency of the equipment, we must try to adjust and organize the combustion conditions in the furnace to fully burn the fuel and reduce carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides. The methods include the following:

Feed water purification treatment: Boiler feed water purification treatment is one of the important measures to improve the thermal efficiency of equipment. Raw water contains various impurities and scaling substances. If the water quality is not treated well, the boiler will scale. The thermal conductivity of scale is very low, so once the heating surface is scaled, the output of the natural gas steam generator will decrease due to the increase in thermal resistance, the natural gas consumption will increase, and the thermal efficiency of the equipment will decrease.

Condensate water recovery: Condensate water is the product of heat conversion during the use of steam. Condensate water is formed after heat conversion. At this time, the temperature of the condensate water is often relatively high. If the condensate water is used as boiler feed water, the heating time of the boiler can be shortened. , thereby improving the thermal efficiency of the boiler.

Exhaust waste heat recovery: An air preheater is used for heat recovery, but the problem with using an air preheater is that low-temperature corrosion of materials easily occurs when sulfur-containing fuel is used. In order to control this corrosion to a certain extent, a limit should be set on the metal temperature in the low temperature zone based on the sulfur content of the fuel. For this reason, there must also be a restriction on the temperature of the flue gas at the outlet of the air preheater. This way the achievable thermal efficiency can be determined.
